Bhopal: A tiger was found dead near Bhopal-Hoshangabad rail line in Midghat area, which falls under Sehore district on Thursday, nearly 45 kms from Bhopal. The carcass was found near a pool of water near the rail track.

Within few hundreds metres on the same rail track, a leopard had died in a train hit. It’s head was severed from the body due to the impact of the speeding train.

The officials of the Railway Protection Force confirmed the death of the two big cats.

This is the third tiger death in the state this year. In the third week of last month, a buffalo had killed a tiger cub in the buffer zone of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, .

Earlier in January a ten-year old tigress died due to electrocution in Banas river area near Sanjay-Dubari Tiger Reserve in Shahdol district.

This is the second incident this year in which a wild animal has died in a train hit. In January, a three-year-old leopard was mowed down by a speeding train on the Kanti-Gunghati railway track in Shahdol district .

In 2016, MP recorded nearly one-third of the tiger deaths in the country, the highest for any state. Of 97 tiger deaths reported in the country in 2016, the highest since 2001, 30 were reported from Madhya Pradesh, according to NTCA. However according to wildlife group CLAW (Conservation Lenses and Wildlife), there were 102 tiger deaths in the country in 2016, including 33 from MP alone.
