Trafficking of newborns in MP: Palash hospital owner may surrender soon

The absconding owner-cum-director of Palash nursing home in Gwalior TK Gupta may surrender before the court soon. Gupta is reported to be in touch with some lawyers in the city and is likely to seek anticipatory bail.

On April 18, police raided the private nursing home in Gwalior and unearthed an inter-state racket involved in trafficking of newborns for the last four years.

Two newborns, with no birth record and other mandatory details, were also rescued by the police.

Police belive Gupta is hiding somewhere near Gwalior and not in Chhattisgarh as claimed by his wife Tulsi, who had told police that her husband was on his way back to Gwalior from Chhattisgarh and would present himself before the police either on Sunday or Monday.

She had also claimed that Gupta was innocent and indicated that hospital co-director Arun Bhadoria could be behind the crime.

She told reporters that Bhadoria was 50% partner in the hospital and ran the show.

Meanwhile, sources close to Gupta told HT that he got only 35% as share from the hospital and would present himself before the police soon as he was “innocent and not guilty of the crime as charged by police.”

Police, on the other hand, are keeping its cards close to its chest. Sources said that they were tracking some people in connection with the inter-state trafficking racket.

Additional superintendent of police Kumar Prateek said police will move the session court to seek remand of Bhadoria, who was earlier sent to jail.

Gupta, a registered medical practitioner, was operating a medical clinic at Gautam Nagar in Thatipur locality when he allegedly sexually assaulted a girl, who had visited his clinic in Gautam Nagar in 2013

Earlier, he had started a medical consultancy business at a small village Khurairi in Jaura area of Morena district

He later shifted his business to Morena city and eventually shifted his base to Gwalior and also opened a branch at Raipur in Chhattisgarh with the help of some acquaintance

He is at present wanted for running an inter-state newborn trafficking racket from Palash Hospital in Gwalior.
