BHOPAL: The train robbers responsible for snatching bag from CRPF constable’s wife Guneshwari Singh on the Samta Express near Itarsi on April 7, were arrested by GRP Bhopal. Guneshwari had confronted the robbers and in the ensuing scuffle had been thrown out of the train and lost her right leg.
Talking to the media on Thursday, Railway SP, Bhopal T K Vidyarthi said an inter-state nine-member gang of robbers, who have confessed committing at least 12 train robberies in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, was behind the bag snatching incident. Seven of them including their leader Vikram Namdev (20) resident of Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh have been arrested, while two managed to escape.
The SP said they had received tip off the gang members had assembled at Itarsi, and they managed to nab seven of them. He said GRP in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra have been informed about the gang’s arrest. They have recovered the gold locket, cash and also Guneshwari’s Aadhar card, and Voter ID card, from the accused.
The SP added that gang used to target mainly target women at night time and had bases in Mumbai, Jabalpur and Manikpur from where they operated. They planned on which coach to board in advance and looked out for soft targets.
