Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti said in Bhopal on Tuesday former chief minister Digvijaya Singh filed the defamation case against her as she had defeated him in the 2003 election.
She was talking to news persons after appearing in the court of chief judicial magistrate Bhubhaskar Yadav in connection with the suit filed by AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh in the year 2003.
She recorded her statement before the court. This was her first appearance in the court after getting bail on October 17. On September 29, CJM had issued a non-bailable warrant against Bharti for not appearing before the court.
On Tuesday, Digvijaya Singh’s counsel Ajay Gupta submitted an application to the court requesting that Bharti couldn’t appear before the court according to her will.
However, the CJM turned down the request as the court had given an option to Bharti to appear before the court at any working day.
On December 1, Bharti will appear in the court with defence evidence.
During election campaign in 2003, Bharti had alleged that Rs 15000 crore scam had taken place during Digvijaya Singh’s tenure as the chief minister.
While coming out of the court, Bharti said, “I was following the party’s instructions. After working hard for two years and keeping my life on stake, I defeated Singh in the assembly election (in 2003). Singh filed the case against me due to animosity. I don’t accept the charges levelled by him against me.”
