Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju is in Bhopal to meet chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, business groups and state government officials to discuss the possibilities of improving air connectivity in Madhya Pradesh.
The minister was accompanied by officials from the union ministry of civil aviation and top management of airlines, both public and private. The minister’s visit is in the run up to the investor’s summit to be held in Indore on October 9 and 10.
Raju arrived in Bhopal on Thursday to meet representatives of MP chamber of commerce and industry. He then met CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan along with representatives of Air India, Jet Airways and other private airlines. The agenda at the meeting included increasing frequency of flights to Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur airports.
There are also some issues pertaining to airport infrastructure for discussion. Even though Bhopal and Indore are designated as international airports and have all the amenities for more number of flights, the number of connections especially Bhopal has with outside centres is very low. Presently, Bhopal has flights to only to Delhi and Mumbai.
