Jabalpur: A woman attempted to commit suicide in front of the office of additional superintendent of police (ASP) in Jabalpur on Thursday by pouring kerosene on herself alleging that police was not arresting a man who raped her.

The 20-year-old woman told media persons that police were not arresting Amit Mehra, who raped her on pretext of marriage.

Amit’s father threatened me on Thursday since I have lodged a complaint of rape against his son on September 1, 2016, she alleged.

She said that she had gone to the office of superintendent of police two-three times after lodging the complaint.

Seeing the woman opening a bottle of kerosene and pouring it herself, cops standing outside the ASP’s office snatched the bottle.

ASP GP Parashar said a case of rape is already registered against the accused. He said police searched for the accused in various places and even announced a reward in this connection.

The woman was provided accommodation in a shelter home by police on her request during counselling as for she did not want to stay with her parents, he added. The ASP office is located in the campus of the office of superintendent of police, Jabalpur. HTC
