Just a few hours before she was found hanging to death in Gadahara village in Waidhan area, the woman was caught in a compromising state with her alleged lover Prakash Sahu by her husband Lakhpati Sahu, in an agricultural field a short distance from her house in the evening.

According to Singrauli additional SP Suryakant Sharma, after seeing his wife with another man in an agricultural plot on Friday evening, Lakhpati Sahu informed the matter to Dial 100 emergency service of police.

When Dial 100 first response vehicle (FRV) reached the spot, the cops found both Lakhpati and Prakash fighting with each other. Both of them were subsequently brought to Waidhan Kotwali and detained for a few hours before being released.

At around 12.30am when Lakhpati reached his house, he was shocked to see wife hanging to death. “Prima facie it is a case of suicide by the woman. The matter has been registered under Section 174 of CrPc and investigations are underway,” Sharma said.

Meanwhile, a report from adjoining Rewa district said a 40-year-old school teacher allegedly attempted to rape a 35-year-old mid day meal cook inside the school building on Saturday afternoon.

Seeing the woman alone in the school in Bahuribadh village, the teacher tried to rape her. The woman raised an alarm after which her husband and brother-in-law rushed to the spot.

The teacher managed to escape from the spot. “A case of attempted rape and assault has been lodged against the absconding teacher under Sections 376 and 323 of IPC and efforts are on to nab him,” Chorhata police station in-charge Anil Verma said.
