Woman paraded naked in MP, five arrested

Five people have been arrested in a case in which a 40-year-old woman was allegedly harassed and paraded naked on the suspicion that she had been practicing witchcraft in Raiseda village in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh.

The accused were identified as Munna, Sarjerao, Lakshman, Premi and Deepak Adiwasi.

On Saturday, more than half-a-dozen people harassed and beat up the woman and paraded her naked in the village suspecting that she had been practicing witchcraft to earn money. She was also made to stand in a drain.

The accused also reached the victim's house and beat her up on Sunday.

The woman lodged a complaint at Amala police station and handed over a memorandum to superintendent of police, Betul.

After receiving the complaint, the police arrested five villagers under section 354 (b), 323 and 34 of IPC.

Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Gitesh Garg said the victim has been admitted to district hospital. "Police are investigating the matter and trying to nab more people involved in the act," he said.

Collector Gyaneshwar B Patil gave Rs 2,000 to the victim as relief amount.
