A middle-aged woman from Lahar in Bhind was allegedly paraded naked and thrashed by the family members of her daughter-in-law’s family.

The perpetrators of the violence were unhappy with the marriage of her son with a girl from their family, said the police.

The couple recently had a court marriage against the wishes of the girl’s family.

The kin of girl reached the youth’s house and after not finding the couple in the house, turned on his 45-year-old mother and thrashed her, following which they cut her hair, stripped and paraded her in the area.

After the assailants escaped, the victim’s family approached the police and lodged a complaint at the Lahar police station on Wednesday evening.

The woman was admitted to a local hospital and later shifted to Gwalior.

Sub-divisional officer of police (SDOP) Avneesh Bansal said that there had been enmity between two families after the marriage, which had led to the incident.

He said that seven persons had been booked on charges of thrashing the woman and that the police were investigating the charge that the woman had been stripped.

(The victim’s name is not being published to protect her identity)
