The Congress party is revamping its frontal organisation, Women Congress, in a bid to empower grassroots level women party workers politically, socially and economically.
All India Women Congress (AIWC) has been directed to form self-help groups of women members to make them self reliant.
Politically, their credentials will be screened at different levels before their appointment on responsible posts within the organisation.
The newly-appointed AIWC president Shobha Oza stated this while addressing ‘ Meet the press’ programme organised by Indore Press Club on Sunday. “Congress party wants to create leaders who have risen from grassroots level,” she said. She has been made Women Congress president for three years.
Responding to a query, she said MP Women Congress needs to gear up and do better as a state unit. MP Women Congress president Archana Jaiswal who has completed three years on the post was present when Oza made the statement. Asked whether state women Congress presidents who have completed three years will be removed, Oza answered in affirmative.
Accepting that groupism exists in Congress party, she said no political force can defeat Congress party if its leaders give a united fight.
Speaking about AIWC’s future plans, she said it will go hi-tech, advertise itself through radio jingles, advertisements on TV. “We will figure prominently on Facebook, twitter also. You will see a new Women Congress in two months from now,” she said.
Asked whether her appointment as AIWC head has come too late keeping in view that assembly elections in five states are just two months away and she will not be able to do much for Congress party’s victory, Oza said her appointment has little to do with forthcoming elections.
Her aim, she said, is to strengthen Women Congress.
