Deputy election commissioner of India Alok Shukla and director general Akshay Raut have asked all divisional commissioners and district collectors to pay attention towards increasing poll percentage during ensuing assembly elections in the state.
They were holding discussions through video-conferencing from chief electoral office with divisional commissioners and district collectors on Thursday. Chief electoral officer Jaideep Govind and commission’s director Dhirendra Ojha were also present.
The election commission officials asked collectors to identify polling booths with a record of low turnout and find out the reasons for this. Raut directed to pay more attention to Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Plan (SVEEP) activities in such areas.
Raut asked collectors to make District Panchayat CEOs as chairpersons of SVEEP Plan committees.
All districts should send their SVEEP plans to the chief election commissioner by July 10.
‘COOPERATE IN ENSURING FAIR POLLS’
Every appropriate effort will be made to check irregularities such as paid news at the time of elections, Raut said here on Thursday. He urged media to cooperate in this regard.
Raut held detailed discussions with journalists at a workshop and also sought suggestions from them.
He said media’s active cooperation helps the commission in ensuring fair elections.
