Stereotyping defines us, and so the first trailer of director Ki And Ka came as a refreshing change. Here we saw a male (Arjun Kapoor) wishing to be like his housewife mother, and a female (Kareena Kapoor) planning meticulously to reach to the top in her organisation. The trailer is interesting enough to make you notice the point it wants to drive home: Gender equality. But, the list of stereotypes is long, and all of them can’t be broken down with just one film. So, we have compiled a list of top five stereotypes that need to be a thing of history as soon as possible. Let’s make them extinct.

Be the man of the relationship: Really? In 2016? Whosoever is bringing home the money isn’t the only one responsible for the house’s welfare. The other party’s able support needs to be appreciated. Otherwise, just think about the money you’ll be shelling out on the domestic helps. In lighter terms: Don’t just be ‘purush’, be a ‘mahapurush’.

Wife shouldn’t earn more than the husband: Why? What will happen otherwise? You’ll fall off the cliff, or you will start stealing her money? Maybe the latter. If not, where is the problem? In your mind? Get off the ego burden man!

A woman can’t protect herself: You clearly haven’t heard of Laila Ali or Rounda Rousey. Just feel blessed that you are not in their line of fire. Some months of rigorous practice and everyone becomes the same in front of an angry damsel: An obvious target. Don’t be one is our advice.

A ‘pativrata’ can also go to a pub: Not the entire world is Tinder. Sometimes, working professionals and home makers seeking some ‘me’ time can also head to pubs and discos. And, no, not all of them are looking for companions. If she smiles at you, don’t be in a hurry and get slapped. It might just be a courteous smile.

Head-over-heels: Not literally though, but recognise the brains behind a successful management. You don’t have to wear high heels like Arjun Kapoor, but you need to look past those 6 inches. You don’t know what you’re missing out on by not going for the brains alongside beauty.
