While there are instances of actors sitting through script narrations before taking on a project, there are examples of actors who signed on the dotted line without reading the script. “It depends on the relationship these actors share with the filmmakers. If they are confident of the director’s vision, then they agree to go along without getting into the depths of their roles,” says trade analyst Amul Mohan. In fact, actor Aamir Khan, who is known to give immense importance to scripts, had signed Awwal Number, without reading the script because it was directed by late actor-director Dev Anand.

Sushant Singh Rajput
Actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who rose to fame with producer Ekta Kapoor’s show Pavitra Rishta, says that he would always be open to acting in a film produced by her. “When I used to do theatre, then she (Ekta) was the first person who showed confidence in me and whatever I am today is because of her. I think she is the only producer in the industry for whom I will do a film without even reading the script,” says Sushant.

Deepika Padukone
It was her faith in her director Ayan Mukerji and her co-star actor Ranbir Kapoor, which made actor Deepika Padukone say yes to the film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013). “When I agreed to do the film, I had not read the script, but I had faith in Ayan and working with Ranbir was the other reason I said ‘yes’ to the film,” Deepika had said at the time. Deepika and Ranbir had been dating for a while before the film was made and there was a huge buzz created about the chemistry that the two share on screen post break-up.

Jimmy Sheirgill
Actor Jimmy Sheirgill agreed to do Amitabha Singh’s Shortcut Safari (2014) without even going through the script once. He had worked with Singh before as well in his film Yahaan in 2005, which is why he did not have to think twice before agreeing to be a part of this project.

Richa Chadha
Actor Richa Chadha, who played a very powerful role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (2013), says that she agreed to do the film without reading the script. It was the chance to work with the director, that she could not miss. “I took on the part without having read the script. It is any actor’s dream to work with Bhansali and I’m lucky to have the opportunity to learn from him,” she said at the time.

Anushka Sharma
Actor Anushka Sharma received a lot of appreciation for her film PK, that was directed by Raju Hirani. However very few know that Anushka did not go through the script before coming on board for the film. “Anushka told Raju: I am ready to play whatever role you have in mind for me. She is a huge fan of his work, so she was sure that he would do justice to her part,” she was quoted as saying earlier.

Sonu Sood
Actor Sonu Sood wanted to work with producer Ramesh Taurani, which is why he did not have to think twice when he was offered a role in the latter’s film Ramaiya Vastavaiya (2013). “I was in Canada when I got a call for the film and without even reading the script, I immediately said yes. When I came to Mumbai 10 years ago, I met Ramesh ji and asked him, ‘When will I get a film?’ And he said, ‘very soon.’ But it took him 10 years to cast me,” he said.
