Actor-turned director Puneet Isarr, who shot to fame after he accidentally punched Amitabh Bachchan while shooting for the film, Coolie, way back in 1983, is currently geared up for his latest directorial venture, I Am Singh.

Isarr, best known for his power packed performance as the evil Duryodhan in the epic Mahabharata on television, earlier directed Salman Khan in Garv — The Pride. In 28 years of his Bollywood career he has acted in over 200 movies.

I Am Singh talks about the discrimination and racism that Indians faced abroad post the 9/11 attacks in New York. “The film focuses on how Americans mistook Sikhs to be part of Islamic terrorist groups and the trauma that followed,” says a source from the film.

For the cast, Isarr chose relatable faces rather than big names from the industry. The only known names in the film are singer Mika Singh and actor Tulip Joshi. Gulzarinder Chahal from Patiala will play the role of the protagonist. Former Miss Great Britain, Brooke Johnston and Hollywood actor Amy Rasimass play attorneys in the film, while Pakistani actor Rizwan Haider will be seen as one of the muslims who was a victim of mistaken identity.

“Puneet was adamant that the characters should look real and not forced. Therefore after repetitive auditions we finalised these actors from India, USA, UK and Pakistan,” adds the source. The film is scheduled to release next month.
