Aahana Kumra considers veteran artist Naseeruddin Shah her mentor. The Lipstick Under My Burkha actor shares that Shah continues to inspire her creatively. And their collaboration every time (on the stage) has always turned out to be a learning experience for the young actor.

“The most important thing that I have learnt from sir (Naseeruddin Shah) is to work relentlessly. Collaborating with someone like him only helps people like us gain knowledge. Having started my professional career on stage with Motley (Theatre Group; founded by Shah), I have grown as an artist. And I always look forward to working with him,” she says. The four plays that Aahana did with Motley Theatre Group included By George!, Arms And The Man, Gaddha Aur Gaddha, and the latest The Father.

“He (Naseeruddin Shah) is very encouraging as a person. After he watched Lipstick Under My Burkha, he expressed that he was immensely proud of all four (Aahana, Ratna Pathak Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma and Plabita Borthakur) of us. Whenever I am stuck somewhere or have doubt I usually go to him,” she adds.

Aahana, who has also worked on the small screen, is excited that The Father, might have few more shows. Apart from that, she is in talks for new films, and another theatre production with Rajit Kapur and Shernaz Patel.

She was also part of the fundraising theatre activity, 36 Ghante, along with Sonali Kulkarni recently. “I had started doing theatre workshops at the age of 14. I enjoy the way we work on the stage,” says Aahana, adding that she is also looking forward to working on the second season of her web series.
