Aamir Khan has begun shooting for his part in the upcoming film Bombay Talkies. Apparently, it was Aamir's contribution to the field of cinema that prompted the makers to take a last minute decision of casting him in the film.

The upcoming joint venture that comprises four short films directed by prominent Bollywood directors, Bombay Talkies, which celebrates Indian Cinema's centenary year, has been in the headlines for a while now.

The latest on the film is that the makers have roped in none other than the perfectionist Khan for the film. In fact the actor has been roped in to shoot for a special segment in the film. Apparently, it was Aamir's contribution to the field of cinema that prompted the makers to take a last minute decision of casting him in the film as well.

Though an official announcement of the actor's involvement in the film is still pending, we hear that Aamir Khan, who has just finished his Switzerland schedule for Dhoom 3, has already started shooting his segment for Bombay Talkies at Mehboob studios.

Anurag Kashyap casts Amitabh Bachchan’s gatekeeper in Bombay Talkies

Anurag Kashyap belongs to the new brigade of Bollywood filmmakers who like keeping their films real. He seems to be following the same principle with his segment in the multi-director film, Bombay Talkies. So, in his short film, we will not just see Amitabh Bachchan, but also the security guard who mans the gate of the star’s Juhu bungalow, Pratiksha. A source says, "Anurag’s story revolves around a guy who wants to meet Amitabh Bachchan, as he’s a big fan of the star. He lands up outside Bachchan’s house every day to try and catch a glimpse of the star. And while trying to get closer to the house, the guard at the gate and the fan manage to interact." It seems Anurag did not want a professional actor to do this role. So he spoke to Bachchan and sought his permission to let him cast his real security guard in the film. Bachchan agreed, and as a result, the guard will now make his acting debut.

The film has been shot at various locations, including Pratiksha, which plays a crucial part in the story. Bachchan also allowed Anurag to shoot certain parts of the film inside his residence.

Producer Ashi Dua confirms the news, saying, “Anurag was keen to keep everything around Pratiksha real. When we requested Mr Bachchan to allow his guard to play himself in the film too, he was happy with it.”

At the launch of the trailer of Bombay Talkies, Anurag had said, “The occasion to make this film is 100 years of cinema, but Bombay Talkies is mainly about the impact cinema has in our everyday lives and how it is part of an Indian fan’s life.”

films by directors Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap. It releases on May 3.

Bombay Talkies' first trailer out at last

The first trailer of Bombay Talkies, a movie made up of four short films, which celebrates 100 years of Indian cinema, has been released on Youtube.

The film is a combination of four short films made by Bollywood's renowned directors, Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee.

Karan Johar's film stars Rani Mukerji, Randeep Hooda and Saqib Saleem and sees Rani playing a sexually repressed housewife as well as a journalist. Dibakar Banerjee's film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sadashiv Amrapukar and it explores an emotional father-son relationship. The film has been adapted from Satyajit Ray's film Star and has a Marathi flavour to it.

Zoya Akhtar's film stars Ranvir Shorey, Katrina Kaif and a little kid. Apparently, the short film sees Kaif playing herself, as a stylish diva.

Anurag Kashyap's short film deals with a die-hard Bachchan fan who travels all the way from Allahabad to Mumbai to fulfill his dying mother's last wish of feeding the superstar home-made murabba (sweet pickle). This is the first time an actual shoot would take place inside Big B's iconic bungalow. Interestingly, the film stars Big B himself too.

It was earlier rumoured that Ranbir Kapoor would play 'Sutradhaar', a narrator in the film and string the stories together, however, now it seems the actor is too busy with his other films.

Made Bombay Talkies under pressure on tight budget: Karan Johar
Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is known to have lavish sets and larger than life and expensive films, says he was under pressure when he was asked to make the film Bombay Talkies on a tight budget.

"We have our own style of film making but we didn't have much budget. First of all nobody gives me a budget because I have always made larger than life films. This is for the first time I have to work under a budget and it was difficult to make a film under a budget.

"The budget was Rs 1.5 crore each. We consciously made an effort to make it in 1.5 crores... we did not cheat by putting our own money into it," Karan Johar, told reporters during the trailer launch of the film. READ ON

Rani Mukerji back as a journo in Bombay Talkies
In 2011, after a string of unsuccessful films, Rani Mukerji came back with a bang, playing a hard-nosed journalist in director Rajkumar Gupta’s No One Killed Jessica. Since then, she has had two releases, one of which did well (Talaash; 2012), while the other sunk without a trace (Aiyyaa; 2012).

Rani, and her fans, will be hoping for a good start to 2013. She is back working with, arguably her favourite director, Karan Johar. She stars in the filmmaker’s segment of Bombay Talkies (BT), which is made up of four short films, and which celebrates 100 years of Indian cinema. And once again, Rani will play a journalist in the film.

The spokesperson of the movie further informs us that “Rani plays a sexually repressed housewife in Karan’s film”. She stars opposite Randeep Hooda in the movie.

A source close to KJo says, “Karan is happy with the outcome of the film. Not only has Rani proved her talent once again, but Randeep and Saqib Saleem have also done a good job. The film has been shot in real locations in Bandra and Dahisar. Karan was the last one to shoot among the four filmmakers, after finishing Student Of The Year (2012).”

Besides Karan, Bombay Talkies sees three other directors coming together —Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap. The much-talked about film is set to release on May 3. It was on the same date, a hundred years ago that the first Indian film, Dadasaheb Phalke’s Raja Harishchandra (1913), released. Karan goes first. http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/popup/2012/9/katrina-slice.jpg
