Actor Sonal Sehgal, who made her debut with Nagesh Kukunoor’s Aashayein (2010), will soon be seen in Brazilian film — Flows — directed by Lucia Barata.
“The film is a collection of independent stories connected by the backdrop of rivers. I will play the protagonist in one of the stories set in India. The reason I chose this film is I was thrilled to be able to work in a new industry, and I really liked the story,” she says.

Meanwhile, Sonal’s upcoming film Mantostan, directed by Rahat Kazmi, will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival next month in the Marche Du Film, which is a film market in the festival.
“I am excited and honoured that my film will be screened at Cannes. It feels great to get this recognition, and be part of that kind of stage,” says Sonal.
The film is a compilation of four of writer Saadat Hasan Manto’s stories and Sonal plays the protagonist of the story — Thanda Gosht — a haunting saga from the time of Indo-Pak partition. “The film is special to me. I have never played such a character in my career. It’s both dark and disturbing. I play a feisty sardarni who kills her lover in a rage of jealousy,” she adds.
