It's been a quarter-of-a-century since Mahesh Bhatt's musical Aashiqui hit theatres and introduced to us two actors, Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal, and one singer, Kumar Sanu, who threatened to turn Bollywood's existing power equations on its head. Roy is even rumoured to have signed 47 films just 11 days after the release.
Sadly, by the excitement wore off, the first two proved to be mere flashes in the pan and didn't do much to justify the hype.
But such was the craze for the film those days that in 2013, Mohit Suri's sequel to the film Aashiqui 2, proved to be an equally big blockbuster.
We take a look at the team of Aashiqui today, 25 years after they made it big in Bollywood.
After Aashiqui, Anu worked in nine films: Kanyadaan and Khalnayika, to name a couple. But that's all she has to her credit. She was recently spotted at an event where she announced her autobiography, and were we shocked to see her age the way she has! Check out for yourself:
We don't know if he actually signed 47 films after Aashiqui. But the fact is that Rahul has, till date, worked in only 25 films! After giving a string of flops, Rahul Roy disappeared from the screen and was last seen in a forgettable film 2B Or Not 2B in 2014.
Director Mahesh Bhatt had tasted success much before Aashiqui and the filmmaker continues to make a mark in the industry. Apart from providing one of the biggest platforms for budding talents under his production house, Bhatt will also be soon seen in a film playing a lama.
After Aashiqui, Deepak Tijori, who played Rahul's friend in the film, has worked in more films than both Anu Aggarwal and Rahul Roy put together. Deepak, who had already worked in a few films before Aashiqui, has worked in more than 50 films. He also worked in several TV shows including the first season of the controversial reality show Bigg Boss. He will soon turn director with Do Lafzon Ki Kahaani: The film stars Randeep Hooda and Kajal Aggarwal.
Kumar Sanu, the voice behind the super hit songs of the film, remained one of the favourite singers throughout 90s. The celebrated singer made a comeback recently with Ayushmann Khurrana-Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Dum Laga Ke Haisha.

Main Duniya Bhula Doonga
