After working on their last film Players (2011) that couldn’t sustain itself at the box-office, director duo Abbas-Mustan’s sons are assisting them on Race 2 as well. The duo plans to groom their sons into directors who can then take forward the baton. “They’ve completed their film school courses in America. But they needed to learn the ropes of Bollywood-style filmmaking. Once we’re convinced that they can handle a film on their own, we’ll let them take the lead,” says Mustan.
The directors, popularly called the ‘men in white’, break into a laugh when asked if their sons also dress in white. “No, they’re young boys who understand fashion and dress like other youngsters. They’re not even colour coordinated like us, which gives us some uniqueness as far as our appearances go,” says Abbas who, with his brother Mustan, has guided the scripting team of the Colors’ thriller daily Chhal.
Meanwhile, reports recently claimed that Race 2 may be scrapped as one of the film’s leading ladies, Deepika Padukone, had run into trouble with producers, the Tauranis from Tips. She apparently had alloted the dates for this film to another Hollywood project without the consent of the producers. “Deepika needed a few days accommodated which could have happened without any trouble,” says Mustan, adding, “Anyway, now everything has been amicably settled. She behaves professionally and doesn’t delay work. We have no complaints.”
