Even though he was bare-chested very briefly in DevD (2009), actor Abhay Deol had reportedly refused to take his shirt off for Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. It was believed that the actor didn’t want to be compared to his more chiseled co-actors, Hrithik Roshan and Farhan Akhtar.
So while he opted to wear a vest for the ‘Ek junoon…’ song filmed during the Tomatina festival in Spain, he later shed his inhibitions to go topless for a beach sequence in the movie. Interestingly, the stylist Arjun Bhasin suggested that Abhay shave his chest to face the camera topless for the song. “Arjun said that the tomato pulp would get stuck to the hair and removing it after the shoot would be painful,” points out Abhay, who consequently insisted on keeping his tee on.Recently, at the launch of the film’s first trailer, Abhay conceded that he wasn’t comfortable shooting without his shirt because he doesn’t like to shave his chest, quite contrary to the trend these days. On his part, the actor dismisses any reservations against going topless for the camera. "I’ve no qualms in removing my clothes and showing off my body. I’ve done it in a movie and I can do it even now," he maintains. The scenes where the actor has gone topless involves Abhay stepping out of the sea with Farhan, and another few sequences with Hrithik.
