After tasting commercial success with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara this year, actor Abhay Deol is gearing up for his zom-com produced by soap-queen-turned-film-producer Ekta Kapoor. The film was earlier titled Shaadi Of The Dead and is now called Rock The Shaadi, thanks to the film’s hero, who’s contributing to the creative work, even before the film goes on floors.
The backstory is that producer Ekta Kapoor and director Navdeep Singh, who last directed the 2007-film Manorama Six Feet Under, froze on the working title, Shaadi Of The Dead. But later, the producer, not too keen to continue with the working title, challenged her creative team to suggest the best-suited title for the movie. Abhay won the contest, hands down. The official spokesperson for the film says, "Shaadi Of The Dead was a working title. And the team wanted to make sure that they had the right title before the film goes on floors. So, Ekta threw open the challenge asking if anyone could come up with a title. Abhay is the closest to the film’s concept. So he, in essence, knows the film and hence, could come up with the title."
Rock The Shaadi has been reported to be a zombie comedy but the producers contend that it’s essentially a fun-jabi film, toplining Abhay with Genelia D’Souza. The dimpled hero is also to perform an item number in the movie and Navdeep, supposedly, is in the loop about it.
Abhay’s girlfriend Preeti Desai will also shoot a cameo for the movie. Reportedly, she’s been hired on the actor’s recommendation. The film goes on floors in a couple of months.
