Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a special gift coming his way this Independence Day. Vinay Pathak plans to gift him a khadi jacket that the actor has woven for the PM.
An insider reveals, "Vinay learnt the art of weaving from freedom fighter Gour Hari Das."
Ask Vinay about this, and the actor says he was "pleasantly surprised" at the ease with which he picked up this art, while shooting for an upcoming biopic based on the freedom fighter, Gaur Hari Daastan. He says, "Dasji was a technical expert on the charkha, and even tutored the late Prime Minister Morarji Desai on how to spin it."
For his role, Vinay was trained by experts from Gujarat’s Sabarmati Ashram, from where the charkhas were also sourced, and from The Khadi And Village Industries Commission in Mumbai. "The exercise inspired me so much that I began experimenting with the charkha at home. And that is when I decided to spin a khadi jacket for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It would be a fitting tribute to the leader, who hails from Mahatma Gandhiji’s home state. I intend to present it to him on the eve of Independence Day. It will be a proud little moment of learning for me," he says.
