Sairat, a recently released Marathi film is making news for all the right reasons. The movie, which was made on a small budget, has grossed over Rs 65 crore in three weeks. In fact, it even received a standing ovation at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival, earlier this year. It has also impressed several Bollywood celebrities, including Aamir Khan, Ayushmann Khurrana and director Anurag Kashyap, who have all tweeted about it.
Recently, even Irrfan Khan tweeted about the movie, saying, “Hats off to new face of Indian cinema #Sairat #NagrajManjule. Thats the way to go !! (sic)”. Now, we have found out that the actor is organising a special screening of the film for his close friends and family, today (May 23).
A source close to Irrfan says, “He is amazed by how well other Indian language films are also doing these days. He wants to do whatever he can to celebrate such films.”
When contacted, Irrfan confirmed the news, and said, “I believe that today’s teenagers, who are mainly exposed to western cinema, should watch this movie. Now is the time for new Indian cinema. I was moved to see the Marathi Romeo and Juliet in this film (sic).”
