They have one of the biggest superstars at home. Probably that’s why the Khan brothers — Sohail and Arbaaz — have worked with Salman Khan in nearly all of their directorial ventures or home productions.

Till date, Sohail has been credited as the producer for 12 films, out of which eight have Salman in the lead, while he himself starred in three. As a director too, out of his five ventures, four have starred Salman.

Similarly, Arbaaz’s Dabangg (2010) and Dabangg 2 (2012) have Salman playing the main part.

But now — thanks largely to Salman’s busy schedule — Sohail and Arbaaz’s next respective ventures won’t feature their star sibling.

Sohail confirms that his new film, My Punjabi Nikaah (MPN), is “something which I will obviously start without him”. He adds, “I am working on a script for newcomers. It’s a love story. Inshallah, now that Jai Ho has released, I will start working on MPN. Rumi Jaffery and I have been writing the story,” he says.

The film has been in the news since 2004-05, and initially Salman was meant to be part of it. “Yes, back in 2005, Salman and Kareena were supposed to star in it,” confirms Jaffery.

Sohail explains that it all boils down to the demand of the script. “If there is a script which features a younger boy or a fresh face, I will go for that. But, if there is a script from that (Salman’s) age group, which suits him, then my first priority would be Salman bhai,” says Sohail.

Arbaaz, on the other hand, has already roped in Pulkit Samrat, Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma, besides Sonam Kapoor, for his next, Dolly Ki Doli, which will go on the floors around April. “…we have realised that he (Salman) is extremely busy. He has to do other people’s films too,” says Sohail. Incidentally, Salman — who starred in brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri’s 2011 hit, Bodyguard — is doing just a cameo in his next film, O Teri, which has younger faces in the lead.
