Tanmay Bhatt, co-founder of YouTube group All India Bac**** (AIB) has come up with a new video that takes a dig at Bollywood’s style of romance - the stalking and harassment that passes off as the game of wooing in our films.
Released on Sunday, the video features actors Richa Chaddha and Vicky Kaushal, who were seen together in the critically-acclaimed film Masaan. Mallika Dua, who has worked in several online videos including .Every Delhi Girl and will soon be seen in the web-series The Trip alongwith Lisa Haydon.
The video is an AIB-style comment on Bollywood’s sexist style of wooing a girl. It not only calls out the harassment prevalent in the songs, it also does not shy away from naming A-listers’ but with a satirical twist.
Titled ‘Harassment Through The Ages’, the video shows a series of Bollywood songs from the 60s to the present day. We see a reworked version of Aamir Khan’s Khambe Jaisi Khadi Hai (Dil, 1990), Shammi Kapoor’s Tumse Accha Kaun Hai (Janwar, 1965) as well as Govinda’s O Laal Dupatte Wali (Aankhein, 1993). Even superstar Shah Rukh Khan hasn’t been spared: We see a realistic version of his hit song Apun Bola (Josh, 2000).
The video also points out to the fact that even in 21st century, Bollywood continues to do the same, only in a different style. Varun Dhawan’s Tera Dhyan Kidhar Hai (Main tera Hero, 2014) and Shahid Kapoor’s Gandi Baat (R..Rajkumar, 2013) have been taken as examples from the recent lot.
While Vicky and Richa swiftly switch their attires and look good as they play the lead characters in the songs, the main appreciation must be saved for the lyrics. Co-written by Girish Narayandass and Karunesh Talwar, the lyrics are a perfect take on the issue and fall completely in sync with the original ones.
