Though Marathi director Sachin Kundalkar’s Bollywood debut Aiyyaa (2012) didn’t live up to the hype, he is still motivated to try his luck in Hindi cinema. After making a bold woman-centric film, the director is now swinging to a different kind of movie for his next.
“I’m working on a very young film. It’ll be a teenage love story,” says Kundalkar. But since the film is still being scripted, the director refuses to divulge further details about it till it is finally done. “I will probably lock the script by December since I am in the final stage of scripting,” he says.
Ask him if he has thought of some names that’ll comprise the cast of the film and he says, “I will start structuring the cast once
the characters are fully developed. There will be another slate of actors altogether.”
Aiyyaa had Rani Mukerji as the protagonist, paired with south Indian actor Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film, which showed a man as
an object of desire, created a lot of buzz among the audience and critics before it hit the theatres. However, it did not live up to that buzz and lost steam at the box-office. But the director is still keen on doing films with Rani in the future.
“There is no denying that Rani is a great actor, so I really want to work with her again. We have just finished working together so I need a couple of months to decide on the next film with her,” he says.
