Ajay Devgn blames retro look for failure of Himmatwala
"Actually, we knew it earlier itself. We thought something was going wrong and I would say, (it was because) the 1980s were shown and shot like the 1980s,” Ajay said. “In Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara, the 1970s and 1980s were shown, but in a contemporary way."
Actor Ajay Devgn feels that the retro look in his last film, Himmatwala, led to its box-office failure. Sajid Khan had directed the film and Ajay said that they had an inkling that something was not right in it.
"Actually, we knew it earlier itself. We thought something was going wrong and I would say, (it was because) the 1980s were shown and shot like the 1980s,” Ajay said. “In Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara, the 1970s and 1980s were shown, but in a contemporary way. I think that (the lack of a contemporary feel in Himmatwala) didn’t go well,” he added.
However, when asked about backing out from the project, he said, “You can’t back out, because it’s a commitment.” Putting the failure behind him, Ajay will now be seen in a more intense role in Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha.
