Lots of big ticket Bollywood films have made news in the recent past because their release dates invariably clash with those of other A-list actors. So, when Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar’s films were set to clash on June 6 this year, the former promptly moved the release of his film, directed by Prabhudheva, to the end of the year. Akshay went ahead with the release of Holiday and Ajay’s film was moved to the November 7 slot.
Recently, by sheer coincidence, Akshay’s next (a remake of Shaukeen; 1982) was confirmed for the same date. Now, in the latest move, Ajay has averted a clash between the two actors again. His film’s release date has been pushed further to December 5.

Experts feel that this is a smart move. “Unless it’s one of the big release windows like Diwali, Christmas or Eid, it doesn’t make sense for two films with such high stakes to come out on the same date. And it’s not demeaning at all on anyone’s part to shift ahead, because it will only optimise the business prospects,” says exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi.

While Akshay and Ajay couldn’t be reached for a comment, Ajay had said earlier this year (when his film was slated for June 6), “We both (he and Kumar) want to avoid clash at the box office…We both would prefer we don’t clash. (sic)”
Now that Ajay’s film is coming on December 5, it will face competition from Abhishek Bachchan’s next film, which releases on the same day.
