KRK has refuted the allegation that Karan Johar paid him Rs 25 lakhs to criticise Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay.

Hours after Ajay Devgn released an audio clip claiming that filmmaker Karan Johar had paid Rs 25 lakh to ‘self-proclaimed critic’ Kamaal R Khan (KRK) to criticise Shivaay, the latter has claimed that he never got any money. Instead, KRK alleged that it was Ajay who offered him money to badmouth Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Ajay, whose Shivaay is set for a box office clash with Karan Johar’s multi-starrer Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, released the said audio clip and issued a statement demanding an investigation into the allegation.

Ajay’s business partner Kumar Mangat and KRK are heard in the audio clip with Mangat repeatedly asking KRK why has he been slamming Ajay’s film and favouring Karan. After denying it, KRK is heard saying, “Karna padta hai na. Ab usne Rs 25 lakh diye hain to karna padta hai na.” (I have to favour KJo, he has given me Rs 25 lakh.)

Mangat then says, “To humse bhi le lo.” (Then, take from us as well.)

KRK, however, has reacted to the news saying he has not received any money from Karan. He has further said that Ajay had offered him money to criticise Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

KRK took to Twitter to clarify his stand. He explained that he tried to convince Mangat that he was not favouring Karan but when the latter would not believe. “To close the topic and avoid Kumar Mangat, I said that I am favouring Karan because he paid me Rs 25 lakhs. But Karan has not paid me anything.”

Ajay shared the audio on his Twitter account and issued a statement to media saying, “I have been a part of the Indian film industry for the past 25 years and have been associated with over 100 films. My father was a professional action director and I have an emotional connection with this industry. It, therefore, pains me to see that people like Kamaal R Khan are holding the film industry to ransom by spreading negativity about films to extort money from producers.”

“It is very sad that people from our own industry are supporting such elements and spoiling the ethos of the film industry. I would strongly demand that this be thoroughly investigated by competent authorities to clarify if Karan Johar was indeed involved in this,” his statement further reads.

Ajay’s wife Kajol, who is known to be on good terms with Karan Johar, also tweeted.

Shivaay centres around the adventures of a Lord Shiva devotee and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is said to be a story about unrequited love. Interestingly, this is not the first time KJo and Ajay clash at the box office -- back in 2014, Ungli and Action Jackson released on the same day. Despite wife Kajol’s friendship with Karan, Ajay has never been friendly with the filmmaker.

KRK has called a press meet at 5pm on Friday when he will talk about the allegations. Karan Johar’s reaction to the entire controversy is awaited.
