Finally, Ajay Devgn is set to don the Himmatwala avatar. Director Sajid Khan — after the release of Housefull 2 — will start his Devgn-starrer titled Himmatwala around August. But he clarifies it’s not a remake of the Jeetendra-Sridevi blockbuster.
“It will be like the 1983 movie, which was a classic entertainer in the purest form, but not a remake,” he says, adding that he’s seen the original about 36 times.
Helmed by K Raghavendra Rao, Himmatwala, toplining Jeetendra and Sridevi, was an action-entertainer, and became famous for hit songs like Ladki Nahi Hai Tu Lakdi Ka Khamba Hai, Nainon Mein Sapna and Taki Ho Taki.
Sajid adds that they will finalise other details including the female lead by the end of February. “It’s going to have a lot of stunts, especially with an action star like Ajay in the lead,” adds the director. Ask if the action scenes will be anything like those in Housefull 2, which Sajid has designed himself, and he says, “I will sit down with the action director and discuss the stunts at length. But it’s too early to reveal anything right now.”
Himmatwala, produced by Vashu Bhagnani and UTV, will be wrapped up by the end of the year, before Khan begins working on the sequel to Judwaa that had Salman Khan.
