Back in the ’90s, they teamed up for two big hits, Ishq (1997) and Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998). More than a decade later, Ajay Devgn is set to team up with producer Gordhan Tanwani for his next action entertainer, which will be directed by Wanted (2009) and Rowdy Rathore (2012) director Prabhudheva.
“In all likelihood, the film will be co-produced by Ajay’s production company, but the details are being worked out. Even though Ajay and Gordhan didn’t work together for a while, the two share a fantastic rapport. If you remember, Ajay also did a cameo in Gordhan’s 2004 film, Tarzan The Wonder Car,” says a trade insider.
While the yet-untitled film will be made under Gordhan’s Baba Films Productions, it’s not clear yet who will star opposite Ajay. However, talks have been rife for a few days that Deepika Padukone might have bagged the female lead since Gordhan wants a “demure and sweet girl” in that role. This is the first time that Ajay will be teaming up with Prabhudheva. “Prabhudheva’s last two films were remakes of south Indian films, but this time it’s going to be an original script. The film is likely to go on the floors in the second half of this year after Ajay wraps up Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha. In the meantime, Prabhudheva will also wrap up Rambo Rajkumar with Shahid Kapoor,” adds the insider. Gordhan last produced Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee in 2007, which was a dud at the box office.
Despite repeated attempts, Gordhan couldn’t be reached for a comment as his office staff repeatedly maintained that he “isn’t available” to talk. Ajay, meanwhile, is busy shooting for Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha in the interiors of Bhopal and could not be reached either.
