They are teaming up for the first time in a film, but it seems like Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar have already forged a deep bond. This can be concluded from the fact that when Karan wanted the release date that the actor had earmarked for his home production, Akshay readily agreed to part with it.
“The shoot for the Bollywood remake of the Hollywood film Warrior (2011) is already on. Karan (who is producing the remake) thought that since the film is likely to be completed way before October next year (originally scheduled to release on October 2, 2015), he should prepone the release,” says an insider.
However, when Karan zeroed in on July 31 as an opportune date for the release, he realised that Akshay has already decided to release his home production (to be directed by Prabhudheva) on that day. That’s when he decided to have a word with Akshay (who also stars in the Warrior remake), to move his film to the October 2 weekend.
Akshay couldn’t be reached for a comment, but Karan confirmed the news, saying, “The energy of the shoot has been incredible, so we have actually decided to prepone our release to July 31. Akshay and Ashvini (Yardi; actor’s business partner) have graciously given us that date and we have given them our previous date, October 2. In days of delays and strictly professional dealings, this situation validates the fact that strong relationships exist.”
