Not many know that Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna dated for over a year before they tied the knot in 2001.
Interestingly, when they were seeing each other, Frank Sinatra’s hit song, ‘Strangers in the night’ (from his 1966 album of the same name), played a pivotal part in making their courtship more interesing.
“Sinatra’s song is Tina’s (Twinkle) favourite. So, Akshay and she would listen to the same song on loop during their courtship. During this time, they were on an outdoor shoot for a film that starred both of them. So, the song has always been extremely special to the couple,” says an insider.
HT Café has learnt that Sinatra’s iconic song came back in the couple’s life in a special way, thanks to the TV chat show Koffee With Karan. “Since its Tina’s favourite song and it’s the first time that the husband-wife duo appeared together on a TV show, he decided to make things special by singing the same song for her on the show,” adds the insider.
Interestingly, for his rendition of the song, Akshay rehearsed for almost a month. “In the past month, whenever he got time, he rehearsed the song on his own as well as with Raghav (Sachar; musician) at the latter’s studio. He practiced even when he was shooting out of Mumbai,” adds the insider.
In fact, Akshay’s special effort took Twinkle by surprise. “And the way Akshay sung the song, it surprised not just Tina but Karan (Johar; host of the chat show) too. They also danced to the number,” reveals the insider.
