They delivered a blockbuster in Housefull 2. And even as the comic caper crosses the Rs 150 crore mark (worldwide), Akshay Kumar is set to team up with producer Sajid Nadiadwala again. But this time Akki has come on board without knowing anything about the film’s director, cast or screenplay.
“I have roped in Akshay for my next venture,” confirms Nadiadwala, who is also writing the movie’s story. “The film falls in the romantic-action genre. It will be interesting to see Akki in that space. He has always trusted my instincts as far as stories are concerned.” Nadiadwala who narrated the basic storyline to Akshay a few days ago.
Ask the Heyy Babyy (2007) producer what makes Akshay trust him, and he says: “I’ve been in the industry for 25 years. Everyone, including Akshay, knows my passion for films. Besides, I have a nearly 95 per cent track record for success. That’s also one of the reasons why actors like Akshay have complete faith in me.”
The new film will hit the floors around mid-February. “Once I am through with the basic storyline, my team will start work on the screenplay. Nothing else, including female lead, or other crewmembers, are finalised yet,” says Nadiadwala.
“We have a strong personal equation. But in the professional realm, you must take such relationships to the next level in order to deliver successful films,” says Nadiadwala, adding he “almost always” ropes in actors by telling them the basic idea before getting in the directors.
“Be it Waqt Hamara Hai (1993), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) or Housefull 2, I have taken the same route,” says Nadiadwala, adding that Housefull 3 will kick off in 2013 with the main team —”Akshay, Riteish Deshmukh, Sajid Khan and I” —being retained. “In between I will also wrap up Kick. Salman (Khan) is finalised, but we are still not sure about the female lead.”
