Akshay Kumar: Priyanka Chopra is making us proud

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, while congratulating Priyanka Chopra for her win at the People Choice Awards for her first American show Quantico, has said the actress has brought pride to Bollywood and the country. Priyanka, 33, has won the best actress in a new TV series award for Quantico, becoming the first Indian to win at the People Choice Awards.

She starred opposite Akshay in hits like Aitraaz and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. They were one of the most liked on-screen couples. “She deserves it. She has done a good job. She is making us proud,” Akshay said of her win at the red carpet of 22nd Annual Star Screen Awards.

When asked if he had seen the TV series, the Boss actor replied, “Not yet.” The duo last shared screen space in 2005 film Waqt: The Race Against Time.

Wishes had earlier poured in from Priyanka from her Bollywood colleagues. Ranveer Singh, Sonakshi Sinha and Athiya Shetty had hailed Priyanka Chopra’s win at the People Choice Awards, calling her a deserving winner.

Her Bajirao Mastani co-star Ranveer said, “Congratulations to Priyanka. I am very proud of her. She has made the country proud. She works very hard... And she has made the country incredibly proud.” Sonakshi said the Mary Kom star is representing India on an international platform in a big way.

“I am very happy for her. Nobody deserves better than her. She is representing India in a big way. I knew this was coming. She is meant to break records. It’s a proud moment for our country,” said actor Darshan Kumar, who starred opposite Priyanka in Mary Kom.

Actress Sonam Kapoor, Irrfan Khan also congratulated the actress for her win.
