After making the second biggest opening collection of 2016, Akshay Kumar continued to rule the box office over the weekend with his latest, Housefull 3.
The film, that also stars Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Lisa Hayden, Jacqueline Fernandez and Nargis Fakhri in lead roles, earned a total of Rs 31.51 crore in the two days of its release.
On Sunday afternoon, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: “#Housefull3 Fri 15.21 cr, Sat 16.30 cr. Total: ? 31.51 cr. India biz... Growth in biz on Sat: 7.17%... Sun shows begin on STRONG note (sic).”
“And those who think *only masses/single screen audience in India* relish films like #Housefull3, here’s an EYE-OPENER...UK: 24.20% AUS: 46.05%, NZ: 26.37%. Biz better than #Airlift,” he added.

Third in the Housefull franchise by Sajid-Farhad, the movie revolves around a rich Indian tycoon who doesn’t want his three daughters to get married, while the girls fall in love with three broke guys.
In the box office (BO) earnings list, Housefull 3 is superseded by Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan that released in April. The movie opened with Rs 19.20 crore, but unlike Housefull, failed to sustain momentum and eventually fizzled out.
For Akshay though, it’s a treat: Airlift, which released in January, comes third in the BO earnings with Rs 12.35 crore. The actor’s movie on the 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait was also this year’s first big budget movie to hit the screens.

Fourth in the list of highest openers of 2016 is Baaghi, which stars Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor, with Rs 11.94 crore. The martial arts-heavy movie released in April to lukewarm reviews. The movie was appreciated for the fight sequences but lack of a good screenplay marred the experience for most critics.
