Actor Akshay Kumar has been paired with actor Nargis Fakhri in the remake of the 1982 comedy flick, Shaukeen. Akshay has been roped in to reprise actor Mithun Chakraborty’s role while Nargis will play the part essayed by actor Rati Agnihotri in the yesteryear hit.
In the original film, directed by Basu Chatterjee, Mithun played Rati’s boyfriend. The remake will be directed by Rumi Jaffrey of God Tussi Great Ho fame. “We will have Akshay and Nargis in the film as leads. We have just bought the rights of the film but have changed a lot of things to suit the sensibilities of today’s audiences. Nargis is talented, hence we cast her. Akshay is a brilliant actor and is good at entertaining people,” says Rumi.
The characters of Akshay and Nargis have been rewritten for the remake. The makers are in the process of finalising the dates with the actors. With this film, Akshay will finally work with Nargis, after she apparently missed out on sharing screen space with him in Khiladi 786 last year. In the original movie, actors Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt and AK Hangal were shown as being attracted to the much-younger Rati Agnihotri. Now, actors Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher have been cast as the three old men.
The shooting of the film, reportedly to be based in Thailand, is expected to begin later this year.Writer-director Rumi will also remake Chatterjee’s another film, Lakhon Ki Baat, after completing the Shaukeen remake.
