Earlier this year, she featured in an advertisement with her mother, Soni Razdan. Although Alia Bhatt has tasted stardom in Bollywood, the 22-year-old admits that, as an actor, she isn’t as good as her mother. “My mum is a better actress. Working with her was a very sweet experience,” says Alia. Would she mind if someone says her mother was better than her in the ad? “I won’t feel bad about that,” she adds.
In fact, Alia says that her mother was quite nervous. “Mum was facing the camera after quite some time. She has done a lot of work, but I feel, as an actor, you always feel some kind of nervousness when you face the camera. My parents have always taught me that it’s good to feel nervous, since it keeps you on your toes,” she says, adding that whenever her father, producer Mahesh Bhatt, sees her do anything special, he gets “most excited”.
“He calls up my manager and tells her, ‘I want pictures and videos when she is ready.’ Mum and dad are very diligent followers of my performances and work. Even when I sang the Indian National Anthem at a kabaddi league match recently, they saw my performance, and had tears in their eyes. They are very proud parents. He sent me a nice message, saying, ‘An actor is a giver; not a taker. So, don’t try to take attention from them (the audience); instead give them back, my magic girl.’ He calls me his magic girl,” says Alia.
