We knew we would eventually get married. We have been talking about it for a long time, but the realistic plans came into existence almost a year ago,” reveals Upasna Kamineni, about her June 14 wedding with childhood sweetheart, Ram Charan Teja.
The Telugu actor, on his part, is busy with religious rituals and his publicist informs us that his phone has no network. Is the bride turning more media savvy then?
“All this attention is new to me, but the media has been very supportive. Eventually, one gets used to it. I have, however, realised that Ram Charan knows how to deal with his place in the spotlight. I will have to learn a thing or two from him,” she smiles.
Upasna, who works full time in her capacity as Vice President, Apollo Philanthropy, has no plans of turning into a trophy wife.
She says, “My work is my passion, and has become a part of me. It’s impossible to leave it behind and move on. And my future family supports me on this.”
She’s also made sure that she’s part of all the planning that’s gone into the wedding —– from picking out flowers to selecting outfits. The bride and groom will wear outfits designed by Tarun Tahiliani. Close friend designer Anamika Khanna, who has created a unique collection for my entire family, exclusively for the wedding, has also designed the rest of Upasna’s trousseau. Ram Charan’s family, including megastar father Chiranjeevi and actor cousin Allu Arjun, will wear creations by Rajesh Pratap Singh, who had earlier designed the groom’s engagement outfit.
The festivities will kick off with a sangeet ceremony on June 11. The actor’s publicist confirms that popular south actors Tamannah and Shriya Saran will perform at the party. For the wedding in Hyderabad, invites have been sent to everyone from Congress leader Sonia Gandhi to Bollywood actors Bipasha Basu and Ram Charan’s close friend, Rana Daggubati.
Tarun Tahiliani reveals what he’s created for the bride and groom.
“Upasna will wear a sheathed yellow and gold South Indian silk sari with a Swarovski encrusted border done with zardozi French knots and a sprinkle of tiny soldered stones. This will be complemented by a rani pink zardozi corset blouse and a rani pink fine tulle veil, also twinkling with tiny delicate motifs. This will create a subtle effect that will allow her hair and hair accessories to be visible throughout. Charan will be in a coordinated dhoti, paired with a fine chikan kurta and stole.”
