A bunch of legendary singers and composers, who once ruled the charts, are back in action this year. Here’s a quick sound check.
Altaf Raja: The 50-year-old rose to fame with his debut album titled Tum To Thehre Pardesi in 1996, and was last seen for the track Jholu Ram in the Emran Hashmi and Vidya Balan-starrer, Ghanchakkar (2013). This year, he has hit the circuit once again with the song Dil Lagaana in Hunterrr.
Kumar Sanu: Singer Kumar Sanu’s Dard Karaara in the Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Dum Laga Ke Haisha takes you back to the nostalgic 90s. The 57-year-old, whose last duet was Chamak Challo Chel Chabeli (Rowdy Rathore, 2012), was a rage in the 90s with hit numbers in films such as Aashiqui, 1942 A Love Story and more.
Ilaiyaraaja: One of the finest music composers of the country from down south, Ilaiyaraaja last made Bollywood music for the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Paa. The 71-year-old made his comeback yet again with Big B’s Shamitabh this year. While the film did lukewarm business, the music was a hit.
Bappi Lahiri: Bappi-da, who created waves with Ooh La La in 2011, is back in action with his song Hunter 303 in the upcoming sex comedy, Hunterrr, that stars Gulshan Devaiah and Radhika Apte. The 62-year-old singer-composer is known for his numerous hits from the ‘80s including Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re and Thodi Si Jo Pee Lee Hai.
Anu Malik: While he was the co-composer of Shootout At Wadala (2013), it’s after a gap of over 10 years (after Main Hoon Naa, 2004) that Anu composed an entire soundtrack, this year. From Moh Moh Laage to Dard Karara, the 54-year-old has once again hit the right chord with his compositions in Dum Laga Ke Haisha.
