The second season of a professional kabaddi league in India is set to begin soon, and a popular TV channel has managed to get Amitabh Bachchan to do something special for it. He has composed a peppy tune for an ad that’s meant to promote the game in India. The actor has even lent his voice to the commercial that is expected to go on air this week.
Uday Shankar, CEO of the channel, says, “We are deeply committed to helping the growth of kabaddi in India. The inaugural season introduced the sport in an aspirational and cool avatar, and we are delighted to partner with Bachchan for the second season to promote it across the nation.”
Bachchan believes that kabaddi offers a large part of the audience an opportunity to relive the excitement from their younger days, when the sport was an integral part of their lives. So, when the channel approached him for the promotion, he readily agreed.
Bachchan says, “The composition of the song, its tune and its singing by me, has been an absolute delight. During its recording, helped by music director Aadesh Shrivastava, I actually felt I was playing the game (sic).” The actor even blogged about the composition. He wrote, “There are therefore 4 versions sung by me — 2 original in Hindi and Marathi ad 2 my compositions in both languages …(sic).”
