The Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) saw a chaotic start on Thursday. The situation went awry when the 400 film-fest delegates who had gathered to see Amitabh Bachchan jammed the entry to the main hall and demanded that their money be refunded as they were unable to see the actor.
The drama began when the delegates were told to watch Bachchan’s felicitation over the screen instead of entering the main hall, where the event took place. "We felt cheated. We bought the tickets to watch the ceremony live and not on a multiplex screen," says a delegate on condition of anonymity.
The crowd grew impatient, and the organisers had to end the event abruptly. "Big B and other dignitaries were requested to leave early as the crowd went berserk," said a witness.
"It has been a bit tiring...," Bachchan blogged. But, Meena Dabi of PIFF says: "When Mr Bachchan is present, there’s bound to be a crowd. The event went fine."
