The grand theatrical production, Disney’s Beauty And The Beast, supported by Hindustan Times, is set to become even grander. The cast already includes some of the finest talents in the country, like Bugs Bhargava who plays Cogsworth (trivia: Ian McKellan is set to play the same character in the upcoming international live-action version), Brian Tellis as Lumiere, Meher Mistry as Belle, Edwin Joseph as Beast. And now, none other than veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has been roped in to record the prologue to the show.
An insider says, “We approached Mr Bachchan almost a month ago. He has the best voice in the industry. Since Beauty Aand The Beast is Disney India’s first Broadway-style musical, we wanted it to be special for our audiences here. Given the scale and grandeur of the show, we wanted to associate with someone of that stature.”
Apparently, producer Siddharth Roy Kapur personally looked into the matter. The insider says, “When Siddharth met Mr Bachchan, he made him listen to the prologue from the original Broadway production of BATB, and he loved it.”
The show premieres in Mumbai on October 23, and in Delhi, on December 18. When contacted, Amitah Bachchan confirmed the news, saying, “I am very happy to be part of this pioneering effort to advance a new and unexplored format of entertainment in India.”
