Reports claiming that Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan will be seen together in director Shoojit Sircar’s next, Piku, have been trashed by the film-maker himself.

“Jaya Bachchan is not in the film. I am trying to get Irrfan and Bachchan saab on board. It will be an interesting combination to see on screen, for me also,” says Shoojit.

He reveals that the film is about a father-daughter relationship, while also rubbishing the rumour that Parineeti Chopra will play Bachchan’s daughter in it. “Parineeti is not part of the film. In fact, I haven’t finalised anyone. It was just a rumour. No one has been signed for that role as yet,” says the Madras Café (2013) director, who is currently busy with the post production of his film, Running Shaadi.com, which features actors Amit Sadh and Taapsee Pannu.

Recently, his film, Hamara Bajaj, ran into legal trouble for using the the brand name of a motor vehicle company in its title. Interestingly, the title of his new movie is also similar to Satyajit Ray’s 1980 film, Pikoo. Ask Shoojit if he fears that his film (whose title is spelt differently though), might encounter a copyright problem and he says, “Yes, there is a Bengali film called Pikoo by Satyajit Ray but my film has nothing to do with that. This one is a simple character-based film. The Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) has already given us the clearance, so there is no problem,” says Shoojit.
