It’s that time of the year when Bollywood brings their A-game to the red carpet. As awards season begins, the stars and their stylists hunt for the perfect outfits. Vogue India’s fashion director Anaita Shroff Adajania and celebrity stylist Archana Walavalkar break down the sartorial choices that our leading ladies veer towards, and how they can change things around this season.
Anaita: There’s a natural ease to her. Even when she is in track pants and trainers, she manages to look like the superstar she is. I would love to see Katrina dressed like a sensual English rose, and this blush Dior gown with a pale lip would be my pick.
Archana: Her style is usually feminine, with floor sweeping dresses by Badgley Mischka or something ethnic by Manish Malhotra. I’d love to see her move out of her safe zone and go bold — especially with her hair.
Anaita: An unpredictable dresser who is intriguing and fun. I’d love to see her portray the woman in charge on the red carpet with a tuxedo-style jacket worn over a mid-slit black gown by Pucci, pulled-back hair and clean make-up.
Archana: It would be exciting to see her take a step back from her blingy picks and channel her raw, natural look. She could use structure as an embellishment — like a Roland Mouret dress.
Anaita: She has the effortless quality of moving from high street to couture, and creating style statements with both. On the red carpet, I’d love to see her in something like this black-and-white, ruffled Lanvin dress.
It has drama and will show off her curves, accessorised with matte red lips.
Archana: Simple, statuesque and glamorous. I’d love to see her wear Shivan & Narresh, which is minimal yet sexy, or go glocal with flow, print and colour like Roberto Cavalli, Etro or Dolce & Gabbana’s Sicilian collection.
Anaita: There’s great energy to the way she dresses. It’s no-nonsense, clean fashion. She should go for a young look with a Gothic edge.
On-trend oxblood velvet and chunky necklaces layered together will create full impact like this Gaultier ensemble.
Archana: She has a dream body and she easily nails varied looks. She’d look fantastic in a fresh, fun and urban get-up — on the lines of Proenza Schouler or Namrata Joshipura.
Anaita: Rock chic describes her aesthetic. She always looks ready to party in body-sculpted shapes (we would too, with those perfect pins). A sculpted McQueen dress will enhance her bronzed skin and shape, and the length will show her style with a fresh perspective.
Archana: For someone who opts for sensual and body-con options like Dolce & Gabbana, she can carry off an edgy look and sport the new covered-up-sexy trend. I’d suggest Gaurav Gupta or Lanvin.
