Filmmaker Vipul Shah is all set to offer the second installment of his 2008 super-hit film Singh Is Kinng, and putting all speculations to rest he confirmed that this time director Anees Bazmee is not at all associated with the sequel of the film.
“The sequel of Singh Is King (SIK) is the project I’m very keen to start next. No, this time Mr Bazmee is not directing the film,” says Shah.
Starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, the romantic comedy revolves around a gang of crooks transformed by a good man and his selfless love. In the past Bazmee has written various comedies like No Entry (2005), Welcome (2007), No Problem (2010) and Thank You (2011). Somehow he lost the chance to work on this sequel.
Producer Shah however seems to have come up an idea and is currently developing the story with writer Suresh Nair and is likely to direct the film as well. “We have a thought and this time it’s not from Mr. Bazmee,” he says.
Since 2008, the protagonist and co-producer of the caper, Akshay too has been under a lot of pressure from fans to deliver a sequel to SIK, however the dearth of appropriate scripts has kept the idea on hold for this long, he informs.
Kumar recently confessed, “Over the years, lots of people from the industry and outside have asked me when would I make the sequel. I have said this to them then and I will say this even now that there is no script in hand for it or a story that ends logically somewhere.” Though sources claim that the cast of the film will reunite for the sequel, Shah is expected to start working on it later this month.
