Arjun Kapoor turns 29 on Thursday.
As the actor enjoys a "quiet birthday" with his "close friends and family", we talk to him about acting in his father Boney Kapoor’s production, rumours about his love life and his equation with Salman Khan.
Are you anxious about the success of your father’s upcoming production, Tevar?
I want all my films to do well. And I want this one to succeed too, for my father’s sake and my family’s sake, more than my own. I feel my father deserves to be celebrated, and this is my way of giving back to him, by doing my best in the film.
Since you’ve grown up in a film family, do you feel you are better equipped to handle the extra media attention on your personal life?
There is a certain understanding of how not to take things seriously, how to deal with them and how to let them go. Also, I have always maintained that as long as no one hits me below the belt or gets vindictive, I am fine.
Have you discussed the possibility of working with your uncle, Anil Kapoor?
Yes, but not on a very serious level. Anil
is my harshest critic. He is genuinely honest with me and I love that about him. I look forward to sharing screen space with him [someday], but it has to happen organically.
Your friend Ranveer Singh is working with him, as is Govinda.
And I am very jealous of him for that (laughs).
After staying off Twitter for so long, what urged you to join the bandwagon?
Since I am such a private person, I feel I don’t [get to] connect with my fans a lot. Plus, post 2 States, there was too much feedback, and it would all get directed to my sister (Anshula). Generally, too, people have been telling me [to join Twitter]… so more than pressure, it became a request. I have weighed the pros and cons.
Have you been in touch with Salman Khan ever since you made your debut?
He messaged me from Poland when 2 States released. I am in touch with him, but I don’t like to talk too much about him, because what I share with him is personal.
Bollywood twitterati welcomes Arjun

"I am being tutored by @anshulakapoor as we speak on how to handle my handle… (sic)."
