Just days before Suhail Tatari's Ankur Arora Murder Case is slated for release, the film has apparently landed itself in legal trouble.
A leading biscuit brand has sent legal notice to Vikram Bhatt's ASA Productions, the makers of Ankur Arora Murder Case for allegedly defaming the brand and the unauthorised use of it's name, Times of India reported on Wednesday.
The trailer of the movie shows a packet of biscuits lying on the table beside the operation bed of Ankur Arora, the lead character. There is a scene where Tisca Chopra (Ankur's mom in the film) says that the kid had had biscuits in morning and was not empty stomach. This is followed by Kay Kay (the doctor) shouting at his nurse that operation should not be postponed for a few biscuits. The brand has claimed that this denotes the biscuits caused the death.
The brand has claimed Rs 1 crore to compensate the damages caused due to the alleged defamation and infringement of copyright and trademark, apart from an unconditional apology, the daily further said in its report.
The newspaper further quoted ASA Productions response to the notice as, "biscuit lying next to the boy does not amount to an infringement of the trademark act; that the boy does not die in the film due to eating the biscuit, but due to medical negligence and thus, the assumption on behalf of the biscuit company is ill-founded."
Despite the counter arguments, Vikram Bhatt wants to play it safe and avoid any troubles after his movie releases. The daily quoted Vikram as saying, "We have agreed to blur the visual in the film and promotions out of goodwill and they have agreed to withdraw their charges subject to us blurring the same."
Ankur Arora Murder Case is a film based on real-life stories and aims to highlight the disturbing issue of deaths due to medical negligence. The film releases on June 14.
