Ever since the Vicky Donor promos went on air, Annu Kapoor’s funny outing has been attracting a lot of attention. However, not many know that the veteran actor is going through a pretty hilarious phase in real life too. Thanks to his mobile phone number accidentally becoming public.

About three years ago, a Marathi newspaper printed the actor’s cell number along with an interview. “So now, my number is with half of India. But I am determined not to change it,” says Kapoor with a laugh. The Saat Khoon Maaf (2011) actor goes on to explain the strange requests he has received so far: “Calls come from all sorts of places like Gorakhpur, Guwahati and Hajipur. A person from Banswara called to say, ‘Annuji, Shah Rukh ke secretary ka number de dijiye’ Others have asked me if I know Bipasha or where Kangana Ranaut bought a particular dress from. I don’t know what to say — I haven’t even seen Kangana till date,” he laughs.

What takes the cake in this bizarre list is a boy who constantly messages and calls the Tezaab (1988) star. “He says I should adopt him, declare him as my son and then hold a press conference to break the news that I’ll launch him as a hero. I really don’t know how to react to such weird things.”

For now, Kapoor is looking forward to Vicky Donor, where he plays Dr Baldev Chadha, an infertility specialist. For the part, Kapoor had to put on weight and develop a paunch, which he did by stuffing himself with parathas. “I thought it was necessary to showcase some Punjabi attitude. I have never been in favour of glorifying the hard work I’ve put in to my films and characters. Every actor should work hard, so what’s the big deal? Do you have to tell a policeman to catch offenders?” questions the actor, who has been seen in films like Arjun (1985) and Gardish (1993).

Ask Kapoor why he has been shying away from the screen lately and he shoots back, “If I am not offered quality work, what can I do? I can’t go and beg or crib for good films. You have to accept life as it is.”
