He has donned several avatars in his Bollywood career — producer, director, actor and writer. Now, Anurag Kashyap is playing an unconventional role — that of a “script doctor.” Anurag has become the official script doctor for Vikas Bahl’s (he directed Chillar Party in 2011) upcoming film, Queen, which stars Kangana Ranaut as the lead. “It’s the first time Anurag is doing anything like this. Vikas, who is also his partner in the production company, Phantom, has written the script. He wanted Anurag since he has a sharp eye for detail. Anurag has come up with fantastic suggestions,” says an insider from the production company.
In Hollywood, once a script is written, it always goes to a script doctor for external advice. His is the outside perspective that is always beneficial for a creative process. “It’s always difficult for a director to find someone to discuss his script with. We at Phantom have now started this trend, which is widely followed internationally. The idea is to not let ego hassles spoil the working system,” adds the insider. While Anurag couldn’t be reached for a comment, Vikas confirms Anurag’s role. “It’s great to have a script doctor working on your film, and when someone as brilliant as Anurag is there, it’s great for the film. We are very thankful that he came on board,” says Vikas.
Queen will see Kangana play a girl from Lajpat Nagar in Delhi. The shooting has already begun and the film is likely to release in mid-2013. Raj Kumar Yadav (who acted in Ragini MMS, 2011) stars as the male lead.
